Asbestos Abatement

I see this quote (or something similar at many sites): "Asbestos is abated only when required for renovation, remodeling or maintenance."

Shouldn't asbestos be properly removed from any building once it is discovered? I know it is expensive, but so is dying from lung cancer (usually malignant mesothelioma).

I don't know what to think, normally I'm against class action law suits, mainly because something usually comes out of my pocket in the end.

What do you think?

  • Thank you first of all for being the initial commenter on my blog (besides me of course). I like your diatribe quite much, especially where you mention me and my blog. This is all new to me, but please expect more tripe comment on the whatever. Thanks again Dr. Howdy and best wishes.

I wonder if I am guilty of culture and ethnic neutral (or worse ethnic bias) comment. Perhaps I am.

Let's see what we can do about that, although you might notice in the title of my blog that I am biased and unfair.

That doesn’t mean that I intend that outcome.

  • Asbestos can only cause asbestosis when it is both in fiber form and floating about. Oh, you have to breath it in also. Most people have never been exposed to the dangerous form of asbestos, even when it was available for use as a fireproofing and insulating product.

If it is locked behind a solid film or other barrier it is not dangerous unless you damage it (you know, like fly a plane into a building that has asbestos insulating part of the structure).

Fear of asbestos is mostly overblown, but not as much as mold.
